The Camphill community submitted a detailed objection
to the proposed "Murtle" routing of the proposed Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route on November 24, 1993. These objections have been consistently maintained
over the past ten years.
Chronology of early objections to the proposed "Murtle" route :
November 24, 1993 - Camphill's agents submit a detailed objection
to the proposed routing to Grampian Regional Council, who were promoting
the proposed Western Peripheral Route at the time.
February 6, 1995 - Camphill's agents
formally request an opportunity to address Grampian Regional Council's
Roads and Transportation Committee.
February 21, 1995 - Camphill representative
tells the Transportation and Roads Committee of Grampian Regional
Council that the Western Option (Route 14/15) for the Western Peripheral
Road would have a "devastating direct effect" on the village
community at Newton Dee and Murtle.
February 16, 1996 - Camphill's agents
express the community's disappointment that that its opinions were
not sought on the report "Proposed Aberdeen Western Peripheral
Road Route Option 14: Camphill Special Needs Study", prior
to it being finalised and submitted to Grampian Regional Council.
February 20, 1996 - Grampian Regional
Council's Transportation and Roads Committee recommends to the incoming
unitary authorities that Route 14 be adopted for the Western Peripheral
Route.
March 11, 1996 - Camphill's agents requests
that Grampian Regional Council reverses the decision of the Transportation
and Roads Committee on four grounds referring to the report.
May 31, 1996 - Camphill's agent reaffirms
Camphill's opposition to the new Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire
Council and expresses disappointment at the "consultative process".
November 21, 1996 - Camphill's consultant
addresses Aberdeen City Council's Planning and Strategic Development
Committee to detail the objections to the proposed routing.
March 3, 1997 - Camphill Scotland Chairman
writes to the then Secretary of State for Scotland, Michael Forsyth
to express concern about the proposed route.
October 7, 1997 - Strength of opposition
to the Camphill routing expressed at a public meeting in the Music
Hall Aberdeen. This resulted in proposal for a meeting with three
local MPs.
May 8, 1998 - Meeting with MPs at which
the community's concerns and objections were explained.
November 3, 1999 - Formal objection
submitted in response to local plan consultation.
June 3, 2001 - Camphill's objections
carried forward to new local plan consultation.
December 16, 2003 - Camphill submitted
formal letter inviting Minister for Transport to meeting with community
representatives.
